Okay, so Active Child is not necessarily a new artist, but his recently released EP titled Rapor is too brilliant not to talk about. Since You Are All I See See in 2011, Active Child (real name Pat Grossi) has been busy working with the likes of Ellie Goulding and opening for synth-pop bands like M83, but for the first release in a couple of years, it’s a stand alone gem. Pure ambient dream-pop through and through, Active Child has a way of creating epic electronic landscapes that span the genres of pop, R&B and dubstep. She Cut Me is the perfect example of Active Child’s ability to bring atmosphere and ambience to his music; it’s calming, exciting and chilling all at the same time. Grossi’s choir boy vocals flow through the ethereal, hauntingly simple Evening Ceremony and Silhouette, a song which is perfectly complimented by Ellie Goulding’s distinctive vocals. Subtle (Ft. Mikky Ekko) is a highlight, rising and falling through sharp, obliterating electro-pop and sorrowful indie sensibilities, with hints of Yeasayer about it. Rapor is very strong EP – clean, straight up new wave. I can imagine we will be seeing a lot more of Active Child in the future.
