New Music: Sombear

Bradley Hale and I go way back. By way back I mean I bought him a beer when Now, Now were in the UK last year. Since then he has been a very busy man, simultaneously touring with Now, Now and writing/producing a wonderfully different sound in the form of his side project Sombear. In July he dropped Love You In The Dark in it’s entirety, proving that he is so much more than a drummer and a songwriter. Love You In The Dark has produced some seriously heartfelt, spacey ambient synth pop which stands apart but equal to his work with Now, Now. The albums opener Incredibly Still is personally the highlight of the record, a nostalgic, hypnotic track reminiscent in places of Chris Walla‘s solo work – which makes sense as he both produced Love You In The Dark through his label Trans Records, and has played with Sombear live. The video for Incredibly Still was also directed by Hale, a man of many talents who is continuously proving he is so much more than simply the drummer of a great band. Now I await a Tancred, Sombear and Now, Now tour something in the future.
