New Video: alt-J

alt-J is no stranger to interesting conceptual and interpretive ideas within their music videos, as demonstrated in their fairly grizzly new one for Hunger For The Pine. Directed by illustrious music video director Nabil Elderkin (Kanye West, Bon Iver, James Blake), the concept, devised by lead vocalist Joe Newman, could be interpreted as a literal reflection of the lyrics. A man is running while being shot at by a million arrows, what could be a violent representation of being ‘shot down’ while you yearn (or pine) for something you desperately want, but keep going no matter how much it hurts. As a concept, it’s completely engaging. Cinematically it’s bold and inviting; a bright and open landscape, but one which is tainted and littered with danger. This Is All Yours is released September 22nd.
