Last night saw hip-hop trio Young Fathers walk away with the prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Award. The award, arguably the biggest music industry prize in the UK has seen past winners such Alt-J, James Blake and The xx. The Scottish trio beat out hotly tipped acts such as FKA Twigs, Royal Blood and Kate Tempest to walk away with the £20,000 prize. I first came across the band last year at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival, where they performed to around 40 people in the middle of the day. Their set was dripping with intensity from start to finish, and definitely made an impression. Well done boys, very well deserved.
